So Close, Yet So Far

My heart is still broken over the Vikings loss to the Saints on Sunday. I remember feeling the same way 11 years ago. It's so crazy how much this season felt just like the 98 season. Both teams were so amazing that I thought that there wasn't any way they wouldn't make it to the Super Bowl. Both seasons the Super Bowl is held in Miami. Both years we lose the NFC Championship in overtime. It's almost haunting.

I remember how much fun the 1998 team was to watch. Randy Moss was incredible and their offense was just ridiculous. Nobody could keep up with them. They seemed unstoppable until they lost to the Falcons in the NFC Championship. After that season I never really felt as confident about a Vikings team until this year. They put themselves back in contention when they got Brett Favre. People were skeptical and questioned whether or not he could stay healthy. They called him an old man and nothing more than an interception machine. Favre had more than enough gas in the tank and had a career year. He threw 33 touchdown passes and just 7 interceptions in the regular season. He also led the Vikes to a 12-4 record and a division championship. Brett Favre was the perfect fit for the Vikings.

The game on Sunday broke my heart. Not just because the Vikings lost but because I know that Brett Favre may not be back next season. And if that's the case, I'd like to say thank you, Brett. You didn't get us our Super Bowl, but you sure gave us one hell of a season.

The Metrodome Miracle Revisited

You've seen the Favre to Lewis touchdown over and over all week long. Probably so many times that your eyes are bleeding. What I really love about it is how ridiculous it really is. Yes, the play was ridiculous, but there's more to it than that.

Vikings fans haven't seen too many plays like that one. A hell of a pass and a hell of a catch. It just so happens that Brett Favre was playing quarterback for the Vikings. It's so strange to think that the player I grew up hating created one of the best plays in Vikings history.

In a scenario that I've completely made up, there's only one person that would find the Favre game-winner even stranger. A Packers fan goes into a coma after Favre retired as a Packer and wakes up to see the end of the Vikings game on Sunday. So much confusion. Favre is a Viking. Favre throws a touchdown pass to Greg Lewis with two seconds left to take a win from the 49ers. I'm guessing this person probably thinks that they are either in an alternate universe or hell has frozen over. A part of this person wishes that they were still comatose.

I love that scenario so much because now this person has to look forward to Monday night when the Packers play the Vikings and Brett Favre is wearing purple. Things sure do have a strange way of working out, don't they?

Hurry Up And Sign Him Before He Changes His Mind Again

Some people would say that Brett Favre signing with the Vikings is the biggest story of the day. Those people would be wrong. And dumb. And probably the kind of people you wouldn't want to associate yourself with. The biggest story of the day is obviously that John David Booty won't be wearing the #4 jersey anymore. Apparently, Booty gave his number up to some old guy who is described as being "like a kid out there." Booty is now wearing the #9 jersey for the Vikings. The second coming of Tommy Kramer? That would be an understatement. Take Booty as soon as possible in your fantasy draft. Also, make sure you take Tim Biakabutuka early. You don't want your friends to take him first. Also, light your hair on fire.

Welcome to Minnesota, Brett.

Bring Moss Back!

Football season is right around the corner and I can't wait. The Minnesota Vikings will soon have Brett Favre as their starting quarterback and their team will be in place. But they're missing one thing. Randy Moss. Please Minnesota, bring Moss back.

Source: ESPN Has A Favre Storyline Generator

The Brett Favre story is dead to me. ESPN reported on Monday that the Vikings imposed a deadline for Favre to make a decision if he is going to join the team by the end of the week. Brad Childress says that ESPN's sourcing is very questionable. Apparently, ESPN has just been making stuff up as they go along.

When he makes his decision let me know. Until then, you can get back to your precious Yankees coverage.

The Vikings Are Still Trying To Get Into Brett's Wranglers

Brett Favre is still on the radar of the Minnesota Vikings. Vikings president Mark Wilf said that they are still considering Brett Favre. Most people are getting sick and tired of hearing about Favre coming out of retirement again, but I'm kind of excited about the possibility of Brett wearing purple.

Why would I want Brett Favre playing for my Vikings? The first answer is the most obvious. Just think of how much fuel that puts on the fire of the Vikings and Packers rivalry. The Green Bay legend would be playing for their rival. I would shove that in the faces of every stupid Aaron Rodgers loving Packers fan I know.

The second answer would be that the Vikings could have success with a veteran quarterback. Back in the days of Randy Moss, the Vikings had a couple of older quarterbacks come in and have great seasons. Randall Cunningham had a ridiculous season in 1998. Jeff George followed it up with some good numbers the next year. I would feel much better with an aging Brett Favre behind center than the Rosencopter or T-Jack.

As much as I would like to see Favre in Minnesota, it's probably not going to happen. By now he probably wants to fade out of the spotlight for a while. I don't really blame him. I would get tired of Rachel Nichols digging through my garbage, too.

I do know somebody who would like to take that quarterback job, though....
